Q & A with Jay D. Allen

HUMANS IN TRAINING

Q:  You were training to be a professional hockey goalie. Why did you skate, instead, into the arena of personal development?

A:      I was a goalie but I didn’t know what or where the real goal was. At a certain time, hockey was my life and I defined success on the ice. Then one day I collapsed unconscious and woke up three days later with brain surgery. The doctors told me I would never play sports again and told my parents to “let him do whatever he wants, he won’t be with us for very long.”  Except they forgot to tell me!  I woke up with the realization that I could I bring the same energy, focus and discipline to learning what really matters in life.

Q:  Why are you still baffling doctors with each new day?

A:      To this day the diagnosis of a mid-brain tumor hasn’t changed. At my last visit to the neurosurgeon (about two years ago), the doctor looked at my MRIs and told me keep doing whatever I was doing. He said modern medicine can’t explain why I’m alive. I’d like to share with your audience what I’ve been doing, why it works, and how anyone can be an athlete of this kind.

Q:  What do you mean when you say that you were the cause of your own illness?

A:      Only when I took responsibility that I was the cause of my own illness did I have the power to cure it. Then I had to learn how to exercise this power. The body is a perfect feedback mechanism that can’t be fooled.  It lets us know when we are out of shape physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  When I collapsed before my first surgery, I was in great shape physically, but I was not exercising on any other levels. My body was telling me something was wrong.

Q:  How did you apply the proven training principles of athletes to recondition your subconscious?

A:      If you go to the gym every day and exercise, you’re going to get results whether you’re skeptical or not!  With specific training you get specific results. Just as we can reshape and recondition ourselves physically, we can do the same mentally, emotionally and spiritually to achieve whole-being fitness. This isn’t a diet or quick fix but a way of life – training must be specific, systematic, progressive and daily.

Q:  What is Whole Being Conditioning?

A:     Just like a chain breaks at its weakest link, so do you and I. As Humans In Training, we are multi dimensional, with not only a body, but a mind, heart and soul to exercise as well.  As an athlete, I was constantly told that my performance was 80% mental – would you agree? I also noticed we spent two hours every day specifically and systematically developing our skills and technique while ignoring the other 80%. By taking the proven training principles that work on the physical level and applying them to the mental, emotional and spiritual, we are able to experience the power of our Whole Being. These training principles are specific, systematic, progressive and daily.

Q:  How do we get off the bench and become active players in our own lives?

A:      How hard is it to be a spectator? Or a critic?  To get in the game, we need to realize that in life there is a purpose, there are rules, there is a game plan and system in place and it’s our responsibility to prepare and train for it.  Let’s face it – Skills are not enough!  We are all born in this game, but we’re not born with the rules. So let’s learn how to play!

Q:  How can we prepare for our lives just like professional athletes prepare for a game?

A:      Professional athletes take the game very seriously because they understand that success is in direct proportion to preparation and conditioning. We don’t bring half our discipline to the real game of life. In fact, most people don’t even have the curriculum!  Just like athletes warm up and cool down for a workout, so can we.  Why does Tiger Woods have a pre-game routine?  Consistency!

Q:  What should our daily pre-game warm-up consist of?

A:      To begin my day, I warm up by reviewing my Humans In Training Journal. My journal reminds me what my life has been preparing me for and paves the way for the future. It clearly reflects my identity, my purpose and vision for my life, as well as providing inspiration for the journey. The journal is an excellent tool for warming up and reconditioning on all levels allowing me to focus on what’s really important. It also serves as a reference point to compare how I am progressing from day to day.

Q:  You call the work out plan INNER Circuit Training – what is this?

A:      INNER Circuit Training is an organic system for global sustainable growth, providing universal teachings that embrace all religions, all races, and all genders, to erase fear and reveal how we have more in common with each other than we can ever have in difference. Imagine…..10 reps on meaning…10 reps on purpose…10 reps on whole-being.

This is an unparalleled system for strengthening our mental, emotional and spiritual muscles, teaching people how to build a strong inner foundation and master the fundamentals.  If the height of our success is in direct proportion to the strength of our foundation and we want to take our lives to the next level, where do we need to begin working?

Q:  How can HUMANS IN TRAINING take our lives out of “remote control” living and redirect our lives according to our game plan?

A:      For many people their lives feel out of control because their mind is out of control.  When I was first diagnosed, my mind was like a TV and everyone else had the remote control.  We need to take back control of the mind by taking back the remote, by no longer allowing people and circumstances beyond our control to change our thoughts, feelings, words, or actions. As Humans In Training, we recognize that we are all part of a much bigger game and plan.  We are all teammates and have more in common with each other than we will ever have in differences. To get over ourselves we must shift our thinking from ‘what can I GET out of life to ‘what can I GIVE!’

Q:  How can you help readers and listeners to find their purpose?

A:      A lot of people want to live “on purpose” but you have to be willing to do the soul searching to find it.  Life is a preparation process. Everything that has happened in your life – the lessons and people you have attracted – are preparing you for your purpose.  As we begin to look beyond the wrapping and see the gifts in our life, our purpose becomes very clear. Your purpose is your service – your contribution through your uniqueness and passion. The soul searching to recognize your purpose is easy compared to when you actually find it – that’s when the real work begins.
